Labiaplasty has an impressively increasing popularity worldwide recently, especially in the United States of America with the demand for this intervention increased by 49% in 2013-2014.  There are many reasons that lead women today to decide undergoing this procedure. The vast majority want an aesthetic improvement on the usually small labia (internal )  (reduction) and secondarily on the large labia (decrease or increase) or in the vagina (tightening). However, there are cases where many women develop, due to hypertrophy of the small mainly labia , dyspareunia. This is a medical condition presenting with pain during sexual intercourse or even inflammation or infection in the area.

For small labia ( labia minora ) , excess tissue is excised using different techniques depending on the case and the use of a laser to reduce size. In cases where we wish to increase the volume,  hyaluronic acid or fat ( permanent result ) can be injected . With similar techniques we can intervene on the large labia (labia majora) by either reducing or increasing the total volume. Finally, cases of loosening of the vagina are treated using a special laser for tightening, in collaboration with a specialized team.

The procedure is performed with local anesthesia and sedation and patients can return home on the same day.

In the immediate postoperative period it is recommended to avoid physical activity for approximately one month as well as sexual intercourse for 4-6 weeks. Patients can return to work within 2-3 days after surgery.
