Abdominoplasty is the procedure where excess tissue is removed from the middle and lower abdomen with a  simultaneous umbilical repositioning and abdominal wall reconstruction as appropriate. It is recommended for both men and women who want to deal with loosening of their skin and muscle wall after weight loss, pregnancy, lipodystrophy, weight gain and more.

The incisions are made in such a way that they can be covered by a swimsuit or underwear. Pre – existing stretch marks can be also removed depending on their anatomical position.  Pre-operative examinations are required as in almost any procedure (full blood count, glucose, kidney function, ECG, chest x-ray and blood coagulation screen ). Smokers are usually advised to stop smoking for some time before and after the operation. General anaesthesia is required .

A mini Abdominoplasty

This operation is preferred for thinner usually patients with minimal excess tissue of the lower only abdomen where a small elliptical excision of skin and fat is performed.

The scar that is made is horizontal , similar to the caesarean section one. The umbilical cord remains attached to the skin and it descends minimally.
